CONSERVATION OF ST. DIMITRIOS LOUBARDIARIS

The complex of St. Dimitrios Loumpardiaris is a work of Dimitris Pikionis and has been designated as a heritage asset by the Greek Ministry of Culture. The complex was designed and constructed as part of a general study of development and restoration of the western side of the Acropolis hill. This part of the complex is situated southern of the church of St. Dimitrios. The first use of the building was that of the church guest and treat area. At the moment, the building seems abandoned, mainly because of the long term lack of maintenance. In addition, subsequent recent constructions have altered its initial harmony. The study aims to improve the readability of the original architectural synthesis, providing at the same time functional use of the cafeteria. The result of these actions will be an historical monument, open to the public.
