CULTURAL CENTRE OF MYSTRAS

The project involves a conference hall for the needs of the municipality of Mystras in Lakonia, situated in a splendid site at the foot of the hill, at a height of 280m. Mystras has been part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1989. The program consists of four major bands, multipurpose hall, administration, dining, leisure and outdoor activities. The building has been designed so as to combine contemporary architecture and traditional construction materials. The use of non conventional materials, such as steel and copper, was carefully harmonized with the traditional construction methods. In an effort to adhere to the village scale, the building is divided in smaller adjacent volumes, with separate functions, resulting in a human scale structure.
